Process & Chemical Engineering

Multi-discipline process engineering for federal R&D, energy security, and chemical infrastructure work — from conceptual design through detailed deliverables.

PROCESS ENGINEERING BUILT ON FORTY YEARS OF INDUSTRIAL EXPERIENCE

Bell Engineering® has provided process and chemical engineering services to refineries, petrochemical plants, midstream operators, and specialty manufacturers continuously since 1984. That four-decade track record on the Gulf Coast — across refinery turnarounds, ethylene crackers, polyethylene units, sulfur recovery trains, and process intensification programs — is what we bring to federal agencies, prime contractors, state energy programs, and municipalities running technically demanding facilities.

Our process engineers are licensed professionals with direct discipline experience: thermodynamics, reaction engineering, distillation and separations, heat transfer, fluid hydraulics, process control, and process safety. We model with the tools the industry actually uses — ProMax, HYSYS, AutoCAD Plant 3D, Navisworks Simulate, CAESAR II for piping stress — and we own the deliverables end-to-end. PFDs, P&IDs, mass and energy balances, hydraulic studies, equipment specifications, control narratives, and HAZOP support all come from the same multi-discipline team rather than being passed between subcontractors.

For federal R&D programs and DOE national lab work, our process engineering team has the simulation rigor and documentation discipline to support technology development, scale-up studies, and pilot-to-full-scale transitions. For DoD chemical infrastructure and EPA technology evaluations, we bring the same engineering judgment that operating Gulf Coast facilities depend on every day.

WHAT WE DELIVER

Our process and chemical engineering scope covers the full project lifecycle — from early-stage feasibility through operational support.

APPLICATIONS FOR FEDERAL AND PRIME CONTRACTOR WORK

Bell Engineering’s process engineering capability translates directly to federal mission contexts. DOE national lab support — process engineering for advanced manufacturing, hydrogen production, carbon management, and energy storage research — draws on the same simulation skills used for refinery process design. DoD chemical infrastructure modernization, including chemical demilitarization support and energetic materials process work, requires the same documentation discipline and process safety rigor we apply to specialty chemical clients. EPA technology validation work for emerging treatment processes leverages our pilot-scale testing and process simulation capabilities together. We also routinely subcontract to primes managing larger federal programs where process engineering is one component of a broader scope.

SOFTWARE AND ENGINEERING STANDARDS

Our process engineering deliverables use industry-standard software and follow established engineering practice: ProMax and HYSYS for simulation, AutoCAD 2D/3D and Plant 3D for layout and modeling, Navisworks Simulate for clash detection, CAESAR II for piping stress analysis. Our drawings follow ANSI/ISA standards for instrumentation, AWS standards for welding and pressure boundary work, and applicable API/ASME codes for process equipment. For federal projects, we adapt our deliverable templates to agency-specific CAD standards (USACE, GSA, DOE) and version-control submittals through cloud-based project management with full client visibility.
