Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing (MEP) Systems
MEP engineering for federal buildings, courthouses, public facilities, and industrial mission-critical systems — designed by engineers who understand both buildings and processes.
MEP DESIGN FOR FACILITIES THAT CAN'T AFFORD DOWNTIME
Bell Engineering® designs mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems for facilities where reliability matters: federal courthouses, GSA office buildings, industrial control rooms, laboratory facilities, and the support buildings that surround operating chemical units. Our MEP engineers are licensed PEs with direct experience designing for both commercial and industrial environments, which means our deliverables anticipate the operational realities — maintenance access, redundancy requirements, expansion provisions, and the interaction between building systems and adjacent process equipment.
We design HVAC systems sized to actual loads rather than rules-of-thumb, electrical distribution systems coordinated with utility service and standby power, and plumbing systems that meet code while supporting facility-specific needs. For federal buildings, we work to GSA P100 criteria and applicable UFC standards. For industrial facility support buildings — control rooms, MCC buildings, lab modules — we coordinate the building’s MEP design with the surrounding plant utilities and hazardous-area classifications.
Our MEP team uses CAESAR II for piping stress where required, AutoCAD MEP and Revit for design documentation, and follows IEEE, NFPA, ASHRAE, and IBC standards as the project warrants. We’ve delivered MEP packages on facilities ranging from small support buildings to multi-story laboratory and office structures.
WHAT WE DELIVER
Our MEP scope spans design, analysis, construction support, and commissioning assistance across all three disciplines.
- HVAC system design — load calculations, equipment selection, ductwork and piping layout
- Building automation and DDC controls design with sequence of operations
- Electrical service and distribution design — switchgear, MCCs, panelboards, branch circuits
- Standby and emergency power systems — generators, UPS, transfer switches, load coordination
- Lighting design — interior, exterior, emergency, daylighting integration
- Fire alarm and life safety systems
- Plumbing design — domestic water, sanitary, storm, specialty (lab gases, compressed air, deionized water)
- Hazardous-area classification and design for industrial support buildings
- Energy modeling and energy efficiency analysis
- Commissioning support and construction inspection
FEDERAL BUILDING AND INFRASTRUCTURE MEP
Federal MEP work — courthouses, federal offices, lab buildings, military facility support, VA medical facility components — demands disciplined coordination between architecture, structure, and MEP systems. Bell Engineering integrates with federal design teams either as the prime MEP engineer or as a subcontract resource to federal primes. Our deliverables follow GSA P100, applicable UFC standards, and agency-specific design criteria. We coordinate through federal review cycles and provide PE-sealed documents that hold up under independent technical review.
INDUSTRIAL CONTROL ROOMS AND SUPPORT BUILDINGS
Where MEP systems support operating process facilities, the design challenge is different — pressurization to maintain control room habitability, redundant HVAC for instrument cooling, hazardous-area-rated electrical for adjacent process areas, and integration with plant utility systems. Bell Engineering’s industrial heritage means we understand these requirements in operational context, not just code language. That distinction matters when a control room HVAC failure means a unit shutdown and an electrical coordination error means tripped breakers in the wrong sequence.
