## Laser Scanning and 3D Model Creation

Bell Engineering® offers high-definition laser scanning and 3D model development for industrial and commercial facilities using Leica survey-grade scanners. Bell captures accurate point cloud data from operating units, registers it in Autodesk ReCap Pro, and develops as-built or enhanced models in AutoCAD Plant 3D. The result is a dimensionally accurate digital twin that becomes the basis for everything from tie-in engineering to turnaround planning to full FEL progression.

## Leica Scanning Capability

Bell uses a high-definition Leica scanner selected for industrial and commercial applications, delivering survey-grade accuracy suitable for process facilities, pipe racks, structural steel, and complex equipment arrangements. Scan sessions are planned around facility access constraints and safety requirements, and registered data is typically available within days of fieldwork. For large facilities, scanning is sequenced against operations so production continues while Bell works.

## Workflow

Field scanning captures the facility as it actually exists. Data is processed and registered in Autodesk ReCap Pro, producing a clean point cloud in native RCP and RCS formats. The registered point cloud becomes the reference geometry for AutoCAD Plant 3D modeling, where Bell develops full intelligent 3D models with specifications, equipment, and piping laid out against the as-scanned geometry. From scan to registered point cloud typically runs days. From point cloud to as-built model runs on a schedule set by scope and deliverable detail.

## Deliverables

- Registered point cloud files in ReCap Pro native format for client use in any downstream tool.
- As-built 3D models in AutoCAD Plant 3D with appropriate line classes and equipment tagging.
- Orthographic views, isometric drawings, and general arrangement drawings derived directly from the model.
- Clash detection reports when the model is used for tie-in or new construction design.
- 2D documentation extracted from the 3D model as needed for permitting or construction support.

## Use Cases

Capturing as-built conditions in units where drawings are missing, outdated, or never existed. Tie-in point surveys before a modification or expansion project. FEL-2 and FEL-3 basis development from accurate existing conditions rather than from old drawings of questionable provenance. Turnaround planning where equipment removal and replacement routes need to be verified against real geometry. Modular skid fit-up verification before shipment. Demolition planning where safe removal sequencing depends on accurate existing geometry.
